On June 12th, 2014, I headed out to the east coast and was able to celebrate the Philippine’s 116th Annual Independence Day Celebration in NYC. I know what you’re thinking and, no, it’s not like the crazy American 4th of July celebration – with beautiful half-naked women in bikinis, backyard cookouts and fireworks – although I wish it were…

Instead, we brought a taste of the Philippines to NYC! We partied it up with a concert/festival, parade, and street fairs. My motherland’s celebration is more focused on Filipino culture and the good deeds that Filipinos have done in America and in the Philippines.

This year, I had the honor to perform with Kuh Ledesma and Ogie Alcasid, two of the most popular OPM (Original Pilipino Music) singer/songwriters in the Philippines. Both are multi-talented and have done it all, including acting, modeling and design. It was awesome. I even got to meet Miss World, Megan Young. And let me just tell you, she’s even more beautiful in person. As a proud Pinoy I always try to participate in these celebrations because I love when the two cultures I grew up in come together.
