Back in the early days of BEP the b-boy in me always came out during performances. I’m talking about paying homage and respect to the days of DJ Kool Herc and the Rock Steady Crew…to Wild Style, Krush Groove and Beat Street…all of the originators of the art form. You know I gotta give the audience a little taste of the technique. They never knew they had it coming. But the road to get these sexy Apl.de.abs was no joke. I had to get in serious shape, especially when breaking is all about your core and arm strength. I would do these crazy workout routines… man those crunches though. I’m crying inside just thinking about it. I’d work my core out to the point that it would hurt like hell whenever I sneezed or laughed.
There was one time where I was on an unhealthy food streak – junk food, fast food, fried food – all of that really, really delicious, tasty, bacony…ugh!!! Anyway, so I decided to go on this strict diet where I only ate vegetables for 3 days straight! Herbivore status. I have no clue how you vegans and vegetarians do it. I’m not sure I’d ever be able to do that again because this dude’s gotta eat!
In the end, it was all good though because I was able to move in all sorts of ways. For real, I was mad flexible. Toprocking, downrocking, power moves, freezes – I was doing it all! Haha! I mean just check out the video below if you don’t believe me.
